Erica's Rehearsal Evaluation...

As planned, we managed to run through all four pieces. By doing this, we were able to establish the weak points in each routine and identify points that we will have to address at rehersals to follow. I have evaluated and set targets for all of the pieces rehearsed.

  • 'Shout'

Evaluation - There were a lot of weak points in this piece. I believe these problems were due to Kev leaving the class and having to swap roles. For instance, me now having to play the keyboard and having Holly replace my backing vocal line. It was a problem for me as i had never practised the keyboard for this peice and therefore did not have the ability to play the music straight away. Also Holly had never practised her new part so tended to follow Tom's line for support. This was no fault of anyone's and should improve in following rehersals. Finally the middle section where the piano and drum pattern changes needs most work.

Targets;

  1. Me to Learn the piano part
  2. Develop Tom's backing vocals & support Holly with her new backing vocal line
  3. General practise

  • 'You really got me'

Evaluation - This was the best performance out of the four ensembles and I believe requires the least amount of practise. There were no problems with the main vocals, bass or drums or even Adam's guitar which he hasn't had long to practise so well done Adam! Personally, I need to work on the piano again and remember what notes to play. The backing vocals require most work in my opinion, however i do think it is a confidence issue and not based on ability.

Targets;

  1. Work on the backing vocalist's confidence in order to achieve the correct notes and timing
  2. For me to remind myself and practise the piano part
  3. Further practise for the guitar solo

  • 'Imagine'

Evaluation; I think the main problem for this one was forgetting parts. In all fairness, i t has been quite a while since we practised however further practise should refresh everyone's memory and improve weak parts. This mainly applies to the piano part again. This is obvious when Mr. Hood fills in for me and shows me how it should be done! Backing vocals need some work on getting in the right note as well as pitch. Drums, bass, guiter and lead vocals all just need general development but overall, i think this rehersal was one of the stronger of the four.

Targets;

  1. Learn piano part
  2. Work on backing vocals
  3. General practise

  • 'That's how I know' (our 60's composition)

Evaluation; This was the weakest performance. Despite Adam's guitar being out of tune, the intro just needs practise as a group! The main problem for this piece was the modulation. Previously we had only really practised until this point, so by time we reached the time to modulate in the piece, nobody really understood what had to be done. Lead vocals were good, and so were drums. Adam hasnt had long to learn his part but he carried on despite a couple of mistakes. Backing vocals need development and some additions however me and Lee both need to learn our parts!

Targets;

  1. PRACTISE!!!!!!!!!!!
  2. Learn parts, especially bass and piano
  3. Make additonal backing vocals to incorporate Sam and Tom more
  4. Learn the order of the song , verse 1, verse 2, chorus, instrumental etc.
  5. Personally i would learn the first part of the song then the second modulated bit individually and then combine the two sections.

As an overall target I would say improve stage presence! After watching the video back, I can see that confidence is lacking, which will effect a connection with an audience in a negative way, in which there won't be much of one. As well as that practise at home people! (This goes for me probably more than anyone!).

Apart from that, good luck for next week Sam!
